At the $10,000 Harbour Island Futures in Tampa, Florida, Chris and partner Matthew Roberts (USA) were defeated by the #1 seeded team of Joel Kielbowicz (USA) and Brad Pomeroy (USA) 6-3, 6-4.  Chris and Matthew played well but Kielbowicz and Pomeroy were on top of their game and rolled to the win.  Tampa was the last clay court tourney for Chris and he now returns to Sacramento to resume training with coach John Rodrigues for the hard court tournaments, beginning with the $15,000 Recoating West Futures in Loomis, California on June 6.
Chris/Roberts Face #1 Seed In Dubs

It's the $10,000 Harbour Island Futures (Tampa, Florida) where Chris and doubles partner Matthew Roberts (USA) face off against the tournament's #1 seeded team of Joel Kielbowicz (USA) and Brad Pomeroy (USA).  Kielbowicz and Pomeroy reached the quarters by defeating Patrick Frandji (USA) and Gustavo Kleine (BRA) 6-3, 6-3.  Chris and Matthew's quarterfinal match versus the #1 seed in doubles is scheduled for Thursday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. (ET).  Stay tuned to www.chrislamtennis.com as we bring you the result just as soon as it is available!

 
Lam loses in singles, advances in doubles

Sixth-seeded Chris Lam, from Honolulu, lost his first-round match Monday at the $10,000 Harbour Island Futures in Tampa, Fla. Lam won the first set against American Sekou Bangoura, 7-5, but began cramping midway through the second. Bangoura won the final two sets, 7-5, 6-2.

Lam recovered in time to win his doubles match with partner Matthew Roberts, 6-4, 6-3, over Bangoura and Frank Carleton. Lam and Roberts play in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

Getting Back to Work

rip cityHey Everyone! I know it's been awhile since my last blog and I'm sure you're all wondering what I've been up to.  So here it is!  My last two tournaments were in Brownsville, TX and McAllen, TX and while I had a tough one in Brownsville, losing in three tough sets in the last round of qualifying, I got pretty sick in McAllen and had to pull out after winning my first round in the qualifying.  After withdrawing from McAllen I was sick for about two weeks and unable to practice or train at all and about a week and a half into it I found out that my Grandmother was not doing very well so I rushed back to Hawaii to see her.  She passed away less than two days later and the funeral was held on the Thursday before Easter.

The Bottom Line

With Chris' semifinal and quarterfinal performances in Hawaii over the past two weeks, he has vaulted 53 spots in the world singles rankings to a career-best #580.  Among Americans, Chris has moved up the ladder to #44, which is also a career high mark.  In doubles, Chris' world and U.S. rankings of #588 and #60 remain unchanged from last week.
