Hey Everyone!  Well, as most of you know, Shingle Springs was my last tournament as a touring professional and I'm sure you are wondering what my reasons for stopping were and what my plans for the future are.  But before getting to that I would just like to say thank you to everyone who supported me during the last couple of years as I was playing on the tour.  It was really an amazing experience to have so many people interested in what I was doing and following my progress as I traveled from tournament to tournament.  The emails and letters of encouragement that I received from you really went a long way in helping me to stay positive and focused on what I was doing.  For those of you who also helped to support me financially I just want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to be out there on tour doing what I love to do and trying to accomplish my dream.  Unfortunately it's come to an end as I've gone through all my savings and sponsorship funds and since I wasn't able to contribute as much as I was hoping to in the way of prize money, I've come to the point in my career where I decided it is time to stop.

My short-term plan is to go back to Hawaii and spend about a month there getting my brother (Carter) ready for his national tournaments this summer and hopefully teaching some lessons on the side.  After that I am taking a short vacation with my family to Florida, which I'm really looking forward to, and hopefully by then I've had some time to think about my options and will be able to make a decision about what my longer-term plans will be.  Being so focused on tennis for so long I really hadn't given much thought to anything else and this next month and a half or so will give me a chance to really think about what I would like to do and hopefully by then I will have a clearer idea of what I want to pursue next.  So again, thank you all for being a part of this amazing experience with me.

The Bottom Line

With Chris' semifinal and quarterfinal performances in Hawaii over the past two weeks, he has vaulted 53 spots in the world singles rankings to a career-best #580.  Among Americans, Chris has moved up the ladder to #44, which is also a career high mark.  In doubles, Chris' world and U.S. rankings of #588 and #60 remain unchanged from last week.
